Calling all high-schoolers who attend schools in Bannock, Bonneville, and Bingham Counties! ISU’s student journal of creative works, Black Rock & Sage invites you to submit your poetry and prose to our contest. Any student grades 9-12 in Bannock, Bonneville, and Bingham Counties is eligible to submit! There will be a winner in poetry and a winner in prose. Winners will be published in the 2018 issue of Black Rock & Sage, will be invited to participate in the rapid-fire reading at our launch party for the new issue in May on the ISU campus, and will receive a $50 prize.
PS–It looks good on a résumé or college application, too!
Prose: Submit one prose piece of up to 3000 words. Prose should be double-spaced with page numbers, 12-point standard font, 1-inch margins–unless experimental in nature.
Poetry: Submit up to 8 pages of poetry. Poetry should be single-spaced with only one poem per page.
You may only submit in one genre.
Include your name; preferred contact information; grade, high school, and county of your high school; title of your submission and whether it is poetry or prose; and how you found out about our contest in the body of your email. The subject line should read “1B-4B-8B.” Be sure your name is on your submission as well. Email your submission to email@example.com and include your work as an attachment. We accept the following formats: .doc, .docx., .rtf. and .pdf.
